Walk and Talk Therapy
What is Walk and Talk Therapy?
Walk and talk therapy is a form of psychotherapy where a Licensed therapist and client engage in a therapy session while walking outdoors, typically in a park or natural setting. It's an alternative to traditional talk therapy that takes place in a room. The process supports the same evidence-based counseling techniques used in the office but integrates the healing elements of movement, fresh air, and natural surroundings.
This therapy method is particularly effective for individuals who feel more comfortable talking while in motion, prefer non-traditional therapy settings, or want to integrate wellness into their healing journey.
Walk and Talk Therapy is offered to individuals, teenagers, and even families who want to experience the benefits of movement, nature, and therapeutic conversation—all at once.
The Benefits of Walk and Talk Therapy
More relaxed and open in a natural environment compared to a clinical office setting, where some individual may find it easier to talk about difficult issues while walking
Energized and uplifted during and after the session
More focused and present, thanks to the grounding effect of nature
Less pressure to maintain eye contact, which can be helpful for clients who experience social anxiety or emotional vulnerability
A sense of movement and progress, both physically and emotionally
Improved Mood and Stress Reduction: The combination of movement and fresh air can lead to improved mood and stress reduction.
Enhanced Connection with Nature: Being outdoors can foster a connection with nature and promote a sense of well-being.
Promoting Physical Activity: Walk and talk therapy can encourage clients to engage in more physical activity.
Alternative for Those Who Dislike Traditional Therapy:
It can be a good option for people who find the traditional therapy setting awkward or prefer to move around while talking. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, or simply feel stuck, walking while talking with a trained therapist can open new perspectives and shift emotional patterns.
Who Can Benefit from Walk and Talk Therapy?
This modality is ideal for:
Teens and adolescents who may feel intimidated by a traditional office setting
Adults dealing with anxiety, depression, burnout, or stress
Parents and caregivers processing life transitions or emotional overload
Individuals in grief or recovering from trauma
Anyone who enjoys nature and is looking for a more holistic therapy experience
Our licensed therapists tailor each session to your goals and comfort level—whether you’re taking a slow, meditative walk or engaging in energizing movement while exploring deeper emotional work.
